Our Environmental Policy

Colour Heroes products are always responsibly sourced, working exclusively with print partners who are genuinely FSC accredited and, more recently, those who have invested in World Land Trust certification.

Our environmental impact has always been key to our business. We proactively search for new developments and innovations in the print and design industry and adopt them wherever possible, based on new evidence and best industry practice. From day one, we have been driven by the responsibility to help and advise our customers and to help them to be at the leading edge of truly sustainable practices. To this end we have been working for some time with one of the first carbon-balancing printing companies in the UK, choosing one of the most sustainable print solutions available.

Other examples of our drive to become sustainability champions are:

Printing

Everything produced by Colour Heroes is printed in the UK and includes the Made In Britain logo.

Our suppliers have environmental management systems (EMS) in place to ensure that clear, auditable production processes are demonstrated. Waste is reduced through dutiful management and regular reviews.

Paper

All paper products are printed on recycled or sustainable, responsibly sourced paper.

We work with approved suppliers who have gone one step further to meet the growing demand for sustainability by choosing carbon-balanced paper and print - offering extensive environmental benefits. Working with a carbon-balanced printer helps Colour Heroes and our clients reduce their carbon impact and fund the World Land Trust’s ecosystem protection and restoration project.

Unless requested otherwise, we will always include either the Forest Stewardship Council logo (FSC) or the World Land Trust logo.

Plastic

Colour Heroes has operated a ‘No Plastic Policy’ for over 5 years.

We are often asked to include imported, plastic toys into the activity packs we produce. However, we have always avoided this and produced paper and card alternatives made from FSC-accredited material.

Other practices

We source our products locally wherever possible. Currently, the only items that are manufactured outside of the UK are our crayons, which we purchase from a UK supplier.

We review and assess each project to identify if it can be produced in a more environmentally friendly way. For example, saddle-stitching rather than spine gluing, avoiding laminating or UV varnishing unless specifically required. We ensure the most economical print set-up and print runs are produced to avoid unnecessary wastage.

We have never advised printing more resources than are required by clients, in order to save waste. We will print quantities as low as one and have done so since we began trading in 2001.

Deliveries of products are scheduled and planned in the most economical way to ensure we minimise our CO2 emissions, promote efficiencies and ensure our clients reap the benefits of reduced transport costs.

As a small company, we produce very little waste in-house. We do recycle our ink cartridges and have continued with a hybrid home/office-based studio, to help reduce our carbon footprint.
