Celebrating World Space Week 4-10th October

World Space Week is the largest space event in the world! This international celebration of science and technology provides the ideal time to use space-based activities to excite students about science and technology.

Mankind has long been fascinated with space. Ancient mythology tells tales of gods and legendary creatures beyond our skies.

Today’s achievements, like the recent Indian Moon landing, are well documented. Tim Peake, the first British astronaut to visit the International Space Station, has become a role model and shares his passion for inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Space exploration fuels children’s curiosity and imagination, and these role models allow children to dream, and consequently, achieve their goals. Many astronauts, engineers, scientists and innovators remember watching the Moon landing as children and being motivated to work towards their dreams.

Today, we have satellites and space stations orbiting our planet and future possibilities of space travel for tourists. The billionaire space race to make space tourism a reality between three entrepreneurs, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk and Richard Branson, means travelling to space could be a reality for our children in the future.

Bespoke Activity Sheet for Starlight Children’s Foundation

We were recently asked by the national charity Starlight to create a space-themed activity sheet. The charity supports children and their families to experience the power of play to boost their well-being and resilience during illness.

Our in-house, creative team developed a space-themed activity sheet containing puzzles and games to help children improve and develop their science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) skills. At Colour Heroes, we recognise the importance of teaching children new ideas and concepts in a fun and engaging way which include key learning outcomes. We also recognise the importance of children playing, it’s about much more than having fun, it’s how kids learn, communicate and figure out who they are.

The Benefits of Activity Sheets

Some of the benefits of children’s activity sheets are:

Children’s activity sheets are a great way to help kids learn and have fun. Activity sheets can include colouring, puzzles, games, worksheets and more. The team at Colour Heroes have designed and illustrated many differently themed activity sheets during our twenty plus-year history!

They stimulate creativity and imagination with colouring; this allows young ones to express themselves through colours and shapes. They can also create their own stories and characters with their drawings.

They improve cognitive and motor skills. Puzzles, games and worksheets challenge children to think logically, solve problems and follow instructions. They also help them develop their hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills and spatial awareness.

They enhance academic performance and readiness. Activity sheets can help kids learn new concepts and skills in various subjects, such as maths, language, science and art. They can also reinforce what they have learned in school and prepare them for the next level.

They can help boost self-confidence and social skills. Activity sheets can give children a sense of achievement and pride when they complete a task or a challenge. They can also encourage them to share their work and ideas with others and learn from feedback and collaboration.

They promote physical and mental health. Activity sheets can help kids stay active and fit by making them move their bodies and exercise their muscles. They can also help them relax and cope with stress by making them focus on something positive and enjoyable.
