Colour Heroes Celebrating 20 Years
Colour Heroes was founded in November 2001 and that means we are now celebrating our 20th anniversary!
As a mother and professional childminder, our company director, Lorraine, noticed a gap in the market for children’s history books with activities to support active learning at home or school. The opportunity to make history fun and to engage children was irresistible and with only a computer, drawing board, telephone, and a desire to set up an independent publishing company, Colour Heroes was born. Within 4 months, Colour Heroes had developed four educational history books for children, and our first order was for the National Trust, followed swiftly by dozens of museums and heritage sites throughout the UK and Ireland.
Following the success of our history books, we began creating bespoke guides, explorer trails and maps for National Trust properties, museums, and heritage sites. We knew from experience that a successful family day out is about entertaining children. Our aim was to help families learn more about the rich history of a site and to increase the amount of time and money spent whilst visiting. Our focus has always been to create fun and inspiring educational interpretation tools that tell a great story. Engaging children and inspiring visitors to fully explore a site helps them to enjoy more of their day. Providing a fun experience and developing opportunities for families to make memories and to love a brand, encourages families to become loyal customers who happily return time and again.
In recognition of our innovative and passionate belief that we could improve the quality of resources available for family days out, we won the Yorkshire Evening Press Business Award for new business of the year in 2002.
Fast forward a decade and we created our first activity packs and activity sheets, designed exclusively for restaurants and cafés to keep children entertained whilst dining out. Our range of interactive and educational puzzles and games are a staple in many a successful restaurant, café, and catering outlet throughout the land.
In 2016, we introduced our website shop selling a wide range of activity sheets and themed activity packs. www.colourheroes.com/shop
Today, we work in a huge range of sectors, including airlines, train and ferry companies, large and small restaurant and café chains, farm parks, zoos, charities, trusts and museums.
We are proud that all of our products are designed and made in Britain, using genuine FSC material.
